Jill Hicks Biography

Jill Hicks grew up in North Idaho and attended both undergraduate and graduate school at the University of Idaho.  She began her career in secondary education and child development at an alternative high school working with teen moms and their babies teaching parenting and child development classes.  Jill worked in partnership with the Department of Health & Welfare and the local school district with impoverished families to gain resources.  She worked with families and children within the local school district, who had IEP’s to learn healthier ways to engage, interact and care for one another.  

Jill then joined North Idaho Community Mental Health where she has worked with children and families for 19 years.  She currently serves as the Clinical Director oversees 9 clinicians and various programs with her agency of 40 employees.  She saw the need within her rural community grow and developed a passion for trauma informed care.  She has worked as an on-call clinician for Child Protective Services for 10 years and currently serves on the executive board of Kinderhaven (a group home for children in crisis).  Jill is certified in EMDR and serves as a consultant for colleagues gaining the EMDR Level II trainings and is in the process of completing her Trauma Focused-CBT certification.  Jill has expertise in sandplay therapy, narrative therapy and attachment theory.   

Jill enjoys educating professionals to bring hands on skills to their practice and/or classrooms.  Jill has conducted various for profit and non-profit live seminars to professionals, school teachers and employees, court advocates and various other professionals working with traumatized and mental ill children and families. 

 Jill enjoys serving her rural community and is developing Professional Leap as a resource for spreading quality education to professionals to bring to their community and serve their population with current and up to date education.
